It's not very often that a bit of climbing kit makes us stop and just say 'wow', but when we came across the Kronos from Furnace Industries that's exactly what happened. The Kronos is the world's first fully-rated technical ice axe to be made almost entirely from wood. As well as looking a lot more attractive than aluminium and carbon tools, the Kronos has a unique feel and shock absorbing properties that the axe's designer George Fisher thinks will make it perfect for classic ice routes. A small company, run by George along with his business partner Ben Carlson, Furnace started out making tools for indoor training, but have since moved on to the Kronos and are proud of the fact that all of their products are made by George himself.
